laconism
Character Background: ◓
Character Personality:
Red’s most defining qualities are his laconism and kindness. As an NPC in the games, the only “lines” he has consist entirely of ellipses, question marks and exclamation points. However, he is not actually mute; in Red/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen, it is shown that he can talk when the Copycat in Saffron City dresses up as him and mimics everything he says to her. Therefore, it can be inferred that he will talk to people when grunts, gestures, or body language alone are not enough to progress in the interaction, although it is not his preference. He can communicate with Pokémon without having to use words at all, to the point where even his commands to his Pokémon in battle are entirely nonverbal. While Red typically presents himself as very stoic, underneath that he is an extremely empathetic person, which allows him to pick up on the emotions of Pokémon easily and interact with them accordingly.
He forms solid bonds with all the Pokémon he catches and treats them with love and trust, which Professor Oak cites as the reason he was able to become a Trainer successful enough to steal the title of Indigo League Champion from his rival, Blue Oak. However, his strongest bonds are with his main team — Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Lapras, and Snorlax. Pikachu is especially important to Red, as he is Red’s starter Pokémon who has remained in his party since the very beginning. The mouse Pokémon was wary of him at first, but now Pikachu fully reciprocates his Trainer's trust and adoration. Red respects his partner enough to allow him to stay out of his Poké Ball since Pikachu hates being in there as well as his absolute refusal to evolve into a Raichu, which helped significantly to solidify their bond. The other five Pokémon are ones that Red also obtained during his Kanto journey and they all make up his party in HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black 2/White 2, and Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Red has spent so much time and been through so many battles with all of them that their unshakable, mutual bonds of love and trust make them a truly formidable team that Trainers all across the world aspire to battle against one day.
Another important quality that Red possesses is his curiosity. On the day that he begins his journey, Professor Oak catches him walking through the tall grass leading out of Pallet Town before he even receives his starter Pokémon, showing his love for exploring. He approaches countless people throughout his Kanto journey to listen to what they have to say, absorbing every bit of knowledge that he can. Although he never liked school, Red loves learning about things he takes an active interest in, his biggest one of course being Pokémon. He prefers to learn through hands-on experience and firsthand accounts from people in the real world rather than sitting in a classroom and listening to a lecture. Despite having very little formal education and therefore not possessing as deep of a knowledge of battle strategies as others, Red’s deep passion for Pokémon has pushed him to become one of the most successful and well-known Trainers in the world.
His kind and passionate nature also causes him to hold a strong sense of justice. Multiple times throughout Red’s travels, he clashes with a criminal organization known as Team Rocket who steal and exploit Pokémon, and at one point even hold the entire Silph Co. building hostage. He refuses to ignore anyone in danger, whether they be a Pokémon or person, and he cannot forgive anyone who would intentionally cause others to suffer for their own gain. Every single time he happens upon one of Team Rocket’s schemes, he charges in without the aid of anyone else but his Pokémon and thwarts their plans without fail, eventually forcing their leader to disband the organization and go into hiding. This is another contributing factor to Red’s worldwide fame. These actions show that Red is not afraid to take matters into his own hands when he sees what he perceives as injustice occurring in front of him. It also suggests a lack of respect for or faith in authority, as he chooses to take care of Team Rocket himself rather than leave the task up to the police.
Despite being someone who does not hesitate to throw himself into harm’s way for the sake of others, Red also has a more selfish side to him. He is very competitive and hates to lose, especially when it comes to Pokémon battles. When the player character in Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver wins against Red on the summit of Mt. Silver, he disappears from the mountain and does not return until the player beats the Pokémon League again. He also looks visibly disappointed when he loses to the player in Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon. Most notably, however, his biggest motivation for becoming interested in Pokémon in the first place came from when Blue, who was also his best friend and next-door neighbor during his childhood, became a bully and stopped playing with him. Although the two of them have been rivals since they were babies, it never impeded their friendship until Blue’s unexplained change of heart. Blue’s ultimate goal is to become the strongest Pokémon Trainer in the world and Red was very aware of this, which is why the end of their friendship sparked his interest in Pokémon battling. Out of anger towards his former friend as well as desperation to keep him in his life in some way, Red opted to keep their rivalry alive by becoming a Pokémon Trainer and proving to Blue that he would become the strongest Trainer using his own methods.
As a consequence of Red’s quiet demeanor, he has a tendency to bottle up his deepest, most personal emotions and will even cut himself off from other people entirely at times. This is exemplified when after the events of Red/Blue/Yellow/FireRed/LeafGreen, Red resigns from his position as Champion and spends years isolating himself in Mt. Silver. During this time, he does not keep in touch with any of his loved ones, including his own mother. It is never explained why he does this, which in itself shows how closely Red keeps his cards to his chest. It is likely that due to Blue’s bullying and Red’s reputation as the powerful Trainer who single-handedly defeated Team Rocket and became a Champion at the age of eleven, he hates showing weakness to others. He would much rather try to deal with his problems on his own than confide in other people. Eventually, however, Red re-enters public life when he travels to Unova to compete in the Pokémon Worlds Tournament which Blue also takes part in, and the two later go on to run the Battle Tree together in Alola, showing that they are on good terms again. It is again unclear what exactly causes Red to come out of isolation, but it shows that the time he spent in Mt. Silver allowed him to mature enough to reconcile with his once-again best friend and lifelong rival, and re-join the world of professional Pokémon battling with revitalized vigor.
As an adult, Red does not interact with people nearly as much as he did when he traveled through Kanto as a child, however many core aspects of his personality still hold true. While he does not have many people he is close to and is slow to open up even to those people, he is a deeply caring person who will always stop to help someone in need whether or not he knows them and no matter how dangerous the situation is. He is deeply devoted to his Pokémon and strives to strengthen both their bonds and their battling capabilities every single day. Although he is considered a veteran Trainer by this point, he knows that he still has a lot to learn and is open to new perspectives and experiences. He takes Pokémon battling very seriously and does not like to lose, but when he does, he uses that frustration as further motivation to keep improving. Blue is one of the most important people who remains a constant in his life as a friend and a rival. Red has a deep respect for the man that Blue has become and could not be happier to be living in Alola with him, working together and continuously pushing each other to stay on top of their training so they can keep up with each other, although Red refuses to allow Blue to surpass him.
Character Abilities: Red is just a regular human with no supernatural abilities.
Items:
- Z-Ring: A bracelet that allows a Trainer and their Pokémon to gather the Z-Power required to perform Z-Moves, as long as the Pokémon is holding a Z-Crystal and the Trainer performs the corresponding poses. This can only be done once per battle.

This can only work if the Trainer and the Pokémon have a strong bond and the Pokémon is holding their corresponding Mega Stone. This can only be done once per battle. The evolution will remain either until the end of the battle or until the Pokémon is knocked out.

Imprint Type: Scenery
Summary: Mt. Silver; a mountain with a large network of caves, a facility known as a Pokémon Center at the base, and heavy snowfall at the summit.
Full Details: Near the base of the mountain is a sleek, modern-looking gray building with a white Poké Ball design adorning the red roof. Inside the building itself is a single large room with a counter along the back wall, and standing on the lower right corner of the counter is a PC that can only be used by Pokémon Trainers to deposit or withdraw their Pokémon from a virtual space. Behind the counter is a large machine that can fully heal up to six Pokémon at a time within seconds by placing their Poké Balls on it.
The mountain itself contains a large network of caves within that only have one ground-level entrance. You will be forced to turn back immediately if you are not willing/able to climb rock walls and swim up waterfalls because those are the only ways to progress in the caves. Only the primary area contains bodies of water, though; the upper levels of the caves are pure climbing with a combination of weaving in out of the various cave mouths that take you along the outside paths of the mountain as well to find the one correct path to the summit (the outside areas are nice enough to provide stairs in various spots, at least). The temperature and weather at the lower levels of the mountain match whatever it is currently in the rest of the world, but once you are close to/at the summit, the temperature drops to dangerously cold and snow falls endlessly, making the climb far more treacherous. At the summit is a single, long path forward that leads to a snowy platform atop a set of stairs.
Imprint Type: Species
Summary: Zoroark; a bipedal fox-like creature that can create masterful illusions.
Full Details: Zoroark are bipedal fox-like creatures with a mix of black and red fur and very sharp, menacing features. They live in packs and are extremely protective of each other, disguising their lairs in terrifying illusory scenery to keep their home and pack safe. Their illusions are indistinguishable from reality; they can even fool cameras and make one believe that they're being physically affected (although in reality they are not). Zoroark are able to disguise themselves as well, and can mimic human speech when taking on the form of a human. However, their illusions can be broken if the Zoroark creating them is attacked. When fighting in their true forms, their attacks include scratching repeatedly with their sharp claws, sucker punching, releasing painful black shock waves that can also reduce a target's accuracy, taunting, intimidating, and preventing their opponent(s) from using items.
